Just the Facts about Sexual Orientation and Youth
A publication endorsed by thirteen major education, health, mental health and religious bodies in the USA that provide information on the development of sexual orientation in youth and the issues raised by sexual orientation conversion therapy.

This practice brief identify the needs of LGBTQI2-S youths, and make recommendation on providing culturally sensitive programs.

This practice brief was developed for families, caretakers, advocates, and providers to:
• Provide basic information to help families support their lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) children;
• Share some of the critical new research from the Family Acceptance ProjectTM (FAP) at San Francisco State University. This important new research shows that families have a
major impact on their LGBT children’s health, mental health, and well-being; and
• Give families and LGBT youth hope that ethnically, religiously, and socially diverse families, parents, and caregivers can become more supportive of their LGBT children.
This practice brief reports on specific findings from FAP research.

The American Psychological Association Task Force on Appropriate Therapeutic Responses to Sexual Orientation conducted a systematic review of the peer-reviewed journal literature on sexual orientation change efforts (SOCE) and concluded that efforts to change sexual orientation are unlikely to be successful and involve some risk of harm, contrary to the claims of SOCE practitioners and advocates. The appropriate application of affirmative therapeutic interventions for those who seek SOCE involves therapist acceptance, support, and understanding of clients and the facilitation of client’s active coping, social support, and identity exploration and development, without imposing a specific sexual orientation identity outcome.

A summary of updated research findings on gay and lesbian parenting.
